After legendary Don Bradman had retired in 1948, Australians continued to perform well at cricket throughout the 1950s. The Australian Team played 57 matches throughout the decade, winning 29 of those matches and losing 12. After retaining the ashes for 19 years, Australia lost to England in 1953 but regained them in 1958. There were also new international rivalries that were faced with Australia as teams from West Indies, Pakistan and India became forces to be reckoned with.
